I'm in Battersea Park in 1969/70 listening to all these bands in the open air theatre. Believe it was 2nd Tuesday of the month in the summer they put on trad concerts. Happy memories dancing to Chris, Acker, Terry and the wonderful Humph - thanks!

Sharp, raw and utterly intoxicating such brilliant musicians who, although the band fragmented from this line up kept playing until they dropped off the perch . This was recorded such a long time ago but is still relevant to this day , marvellous music totally timeless.

Chris sings better in his eighties than on this recording! but what a wonderful sound

There's another performance of the same song, recorded life in 1954 at the Royal Festival Hall, which, in my opinion, sounds a bit better, together with guest alto-saxophonist Bertie King from Jamaica.

I always got confused with Chris Barber as he was a Trad Artist but looked and sounded a lot like a Modern Jazz artist plus with the Blues but complete lush musician.
