Ok I’ve thought of a setting I like! I love books that take place in forests.

This was great! In terms of settings, I''ll read pretty much anything if it takes place in a gothic, brooding manor house. Love the backdrop by the way; you have excellent taste in art ;)

Died laughing at your overwrought, “WOW. Thanks, Jenn!” This was super fun! Also, I don’t think there’s ever been a sprayer edges book that a Jenn has not bought.

Fab video, congratulations. Love the buddy-read duality - it stops one voice becoming repetitive and droney in tone, a trap into which other reviewers sometimes fall. I am intrigued by your final comment about nonsensical contradictions in two of the characters, Any chance of a short spoiler-warning explanation video?

I was literally going to buy this book for the reasons you guys mentioned; the cover is beautiful and i love lighthouses. I'm glad I didn't give in to impulse and I'll prob pick it up when it becomes available in the library. 😅

I've honestly never considered how the setting impacts my enjoyment of books! I'll have to give it some thought, but I can't recall a time that I didn't like a setting.

If you like lighthouses, I enjoyed On Lighthouses by Jazmina Barrera translated by Christina Mcsweeny.

I love lighthouses. I plan on getting a tattoo as well. So I can safely say I am picking this one up soon. 😁 Idk if this is related to the author writing this or not.. but there is a true story about 3 men going missing from a lighthouse. Except noone knows what happened to them so this book is essentially giving you an ending that the true story never had.

As far as settings go I love big cities and the whole lonely individual in the sea of people thing (it makes me enjoy anything from Yoshimoto to Salinger). Universities and small, southern towns are also my thing. I hate sea/ocean settings for some reason. Coasts are ok though.

I had high expectations of this book. Sadly, I found it flat and boring. I didn’t like its structure and flipped through parts to find out what happened. Part of the disappointment was the marketing. I believed the book would be exciting. At the time of reading my mother was in hospital, but I don’t believe this reflected my good reads rating of 1. It just wasn’t engaging or interesting after the opening chapter or two. A complete disappointment, I’m afraid to report. So flat, so bloody boring!
