Показать описание
I got ahold of some of the rarest paint colors in existence. Some of these colors are going to be revealed for the first time in 100s of years. And today, I get the honor of swatching them, explain the history and create a painting. Enjoy!

I love how we seek out historical colours, but artists hundreds of years ago would probably have killed to get colours as vibrant as the synthetic paints we have today

Fun Fact:
The phrase “mad as a hatter” is derived from the fact that hat makers were constantly exposed to large amounts of mercury for the creation of hats back in the day.
Chronic mercury toxicity can cause serious mental illness in sufferers, thus the phrase “mad as a hatter” (and of course, the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland) was born.

Historical paints really be like: "this red was made with the blood of this long lost king's first born son."

I think "depth" is the most accurate word to describe how different these colors are. Absolutely beautiful, its a pleasure to get lost in them.

“To be fair it’s mostly arsenic”
That could make sense in any statement about the 17th century!
