I definitely don't fit into your normal demographics based on my calendar age, mid 60s, but I enjoy your content. I was an early user of the internet, back pre browsers, when pine was our sole email option. I remember when the world wide web was not graphical and we moved about via telnet and found locations using indexers.Back then there weren't many rules. I think having been online back then is why I appreciate Whang's content despite my advanced years.

I had a dying liver, was given 2 years. In turn, I lost most of my social anxiety and started making friends. I started trying drugs because whatever right? Then I figured, I might as well try to fight my fate. I started losing a bunch of weight with professional help and monitoring my liver. Now, I am still alive, my liver is still diseased but stable, and aside from annoying auto-immune issues I'm looking at at least another 10 years.

as a musician who was diagnosed with an "inoperable tumor" at 8 years old, this kind of thing hits me in that hidden place that I don't like to bring up.
EDIT, the resolution TL:DR GET ANOTHER OPINION UNTIL YOU FIND A DOC WITH SOME MOXIE: After 3 opinions in Japan (I was living there at the time), we got an opinion from a doc in US, and at the time in the US, if a terminal patient was admitted to a hospital, the patient couldn't be turned out without care, so I was able to get care for a fraction of the cost simply because the doctor told the hospital to admit me, it still ruined us financially (and to this day), but I am alive. After the 3 operations, it was fully removed and discovered that while the tumor was lethal, it was not cancerous as the doctors (US docs included) had thought. To this day I am cancer free and tumor free, though I have several huge scars and a slight limp (tumor was around and THROUGH the hip joint). The psychological problems only came to the surface when I was about 18, I realized that it wasn't normal to worry about death at every unexplained pain somewhere in my body, and that it was not alright mentally to consider my entire life since 1999 as being on stolen time, you just can't live like that. I am 30 now and am starting to get a hold of the panic attacks and dour sense of doom.

Whang should cover the cult in Russia that prays to the character Gadget from Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers

Dude, you are doing such a nice thing shouting this out to people to help with.

I can't really help out much other than throwing out the idea that the song's description from Glittering Craft and the similar-sounding "Jordan, That Was Savage" reminded me of the band "Built to Spill." I am only familiar with like 3 or so songs in any way, but all of them fit the bill of what she was talking about. I was kinda shocked when I heard the singer of "Jordan..." speak in an almost exact tone and style as the lead singer of "Built to Spill" with rather easy-to-digest but rather punk feeling guitar work bleeding though. The band has also been active since the early 90s and is still at it today, meaning that the large chunk of time mentioned could be accounted for when speaking of which song could be the one. The only part that can be shot down is that "Built to Spill" is a pretty well-known band out of Idaho than a little-known band out of Texas. However, the similarities for me are way too close to just simply throwing away the idea instead of giving y'all it and seeing if that fits.

Examples of the band's sound: "In The Morning" and "Big Dipper" from 1994's "There's Nothing Wrong With Love" and "Liar" from 2006's "You In Reverse."

Don’t be getting me to think about my mortality, also this is a nice little story. Glad to see you cover it! This is just wholesome tbh! Best lesson, when in doubt leave your mark with Reddit!

I would throw out Bayside, specifically the song 'on love, on life'. The way she described the song idk it just kinda hits the same tone with me

So it looks like she's looking for a midwest emo band. Yah, thats gonna be a tough find because the genre is very DIY and it wouldn't be out of the question that the only records are one sitting in some garage and the other that got sent to the radio channel

I fully understand the want to find these lost media pieces. When I was in high school I went to my schools production of the musical tommy. The girl that did the Acid Queen’s song was so hauntingly good I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it right now. And I’m never going to get to hear it again in my life unless someone recorded it but even then it probably wasn’t very good quality. It makes me sad but I keep it alive in my brain and heart. (Actually the guy that played older tommy is a well known local musician so it’s funny how life works, I still have access to his music but I don’t even know the name of the girl that sang that song). I fully understand the desire to hear a song that’s had that kind of effect on your again. I always wish people the best on their hunt but especially this girl🍀

2:19 Damn, that's how an extremely close friend of mine died. Years of surgeries to remove as much as they can of the tumor... ended up making it a decade _after_ finding out the back pain was cancer.
Ah, what a wonderful woman, I really did love her. And man, I remember the days when she first started complaining of the back pain... but she really did end up bearing that agony with such grace, it was incredible. RIP

Whang! All your videos are awesome but this one feels likes it’s on a higher level. I’m not easily moved emotionally but today I was. This woman’s dying wish to share a song with the world and all these people reaching out through music to meet her. Deep. I hope she finds it.

I had heard a song once in 2009 while grocery shopping. I loved how it sounded, and assumed that I could find it later by looking up the lyrics. Nope, Google would just put out sponsored links and other garbage results. It wasn't until 2019 that I heard the song again, while grocery shopping. I was able to use Soundhound at that point, and it was "99 Times" by "Kate Voegele".

I'd like to think if I knew I was gonna die that I'd try to become a warlord or something. That seems a lot simpler than tracking down a lost song it seems

Damn, talks about poopy and vomit never bothered me. But the talk about mortality and dying young really hit me harder than any bodily fluid could.

Hey man love the content. Had a question. Did we ever get a definite origin of the most mysterious song on the internet??

Hearing the recording of her and the clip that was played from that other band I think she might need to look into a band called bayside. I’ve got something rattling in my head about one of their songs that had lyrics similar but can’t remember specifically.

Edit: currently going through their discography to see if I can figure out what song cause it’s driving me bananas

What a great goal. I have a little collection of stuff from an obscure Canadian band that broke up in 2008 and who's music is near impossible to find on the internet aside from a couple songs. I have the full album that isnt on any streaming or music purchasing platforms, unreleased mixes, pre-album tracks and unreleased demos. Im gonna send them everything i got :)

Obscure Music Archives started a youtube channel in her memory. He uploaded the song The Hell It Is by Du Vide. He's convinced it's the one. I like to think that it is and if not, its still worth checking out. Its a beautiful song
