The people who are worried about this need to remember that most of the Minecraft features we have today were released this way. Jungles, 2 dimensions, temples, ocean monuments, Java hardcore/adventure/spectator, end cities, they even released the update that changed the world adding multiple biomes, 2 wood types and one of the biggest structures in the game (at the time) like this. This is better than 1 yearly thing that has a 50% chance of being a disappointment.

I do prefer this type of updates honestly, it means we won’t have people dissatisfied with giant updates anymore. Sure some people will be disappointed with a drop, but another one will always pop up.

These drops seem like a perfect opportunity to add the losing biomes from the biome votes👀

I think this leaves them open to work “major updates” for a longer period of time and make them bigger and more thought out. The “drops” will hold us over with small, unrelated updates while they can work under low stress to do something impressive. This also will make it a lot easier for them to patch random parts of the game rather than only updating one subject area a year.

Imagine if they brought back the combat update 2 as a drop

They should rename "Bedrock Betas and Previews" to just previews, because the game already went through the betas. Then we can say "The Snapshot and Preview this week" with out having that unnecessary third word in there.

My only worry about this is for Modders. I imagine Modders are going to have to update mods more frequently if Minecraft is dropping small things more frequently instead of major updates.

Gives people something to look forward to more often that isn’t huge. My and my bf work full time and I do feel like I miss out sometimes. Me and my bf just found our first ancient city ever. Armored paws update felt attainable to me…still haven’t found an armadillo but the dream seems feasible if I traveled around my world more🤣

i think this might be really good for updating random older parts of the game. things like bundles and minecarts can't really fit into a theme for a yearly update, so those could come in drops and keep players excited, while they have as much time as they want for big overhauls like the end update

In software development you can either have a list of features with an unknown release date or a release date with an unknown list of features

what happened to all the people saying " modders are faster than mojang" and now that faster updating is back people are complaining about mods not being able to keep up with minecraft's updates... guys 1.12 was around the time of old faster updates.. mods were fine.

One of the biggest behind-the-scenes development issues that I would love to get feedback on from a "Minecraft Spokesperson" is just how many people and/or resources are being dedicated to development of features that aren't tied directly to updates. Some of the things that they are working on such as the Bedrock UI Update, the Deferred Rendering/Shaders/RTX Updates, Combat Snapshots, Parity Updates, Long-Term Bug Fixing, Bedrock Off-Hand Development, and Experiments such as the Bundle, Villager Trade Rebalancing, Minecart Physics, etc. are all looking at things from a long-term development standpoint, yet aren't scheduled for the next release or for anytime in the near future.
The reason this is interesting to me is that people will often call Mojang "lazy" (a sentiment I do NOT share), and will often throw out things like "Mojang has 600 employees and they can only put out one update a year while a single modder can do what they do in one week". These kinds of takes are not very fair to Mojang as they obviously have multiple platforms to develop for and a lot more considerations than a modder, but it would also be good to get some perspective as to just how many of all of those employees are actually working on the next update as opposed to future-future updates.

As a player who has been playing for more than 12 years I feel that this step that Mojang is currently taking is the correct step because not only does it solve the bordism of major new updates when they come out but it also gives players the will to keep playing the game knowing that they dont have to wait a year for at least an update even if its not a big one. By Mojang doing it like this the game will be less boring in my option because as a player gets bored of a new feature there will be another new feature that will refuel that interest.

I do hope announcing the long term initiatives means that larger updates like the nether update will come. As mojang stated before, the nether update was too large to handle in the former update cycle

And bigger updates equals bigger bugs and fixes.

The trifecta of updates we need: End Update, Farming Update, and Failed Votes Update

9:47 Caves and cliffs was amazing (the problem was clearly the pandemic not the update itself)

Honestly, I want the small updates to be mostly balance changes (combat tweeks)
