Yes, I quite agree, I almost got caught out by some traffic lights today because I wasn't planning ahead far enough. I was very annoyed with myself!

If I saw that I would throw on the hazards, block the lane and clear it off the road. A big van or car visibly blocking the road for a few mins saves anyone failing to see the bits lying in the road, especially a motorcyclist

I am going to share something which I did not think I would and it is not pleasant, but here goes. This brings back memories of what happened to me on my way to Edinburgh on the M8 about 30 years ago with the cars in front of me weaving in and out, only it was not pallets but pieces of the body of a poor woman who had been on the motorway after her car had broken down and was knocked down initially by a large vehicle. It was in the Scottish news . I noticed at the time a lot of drivers had stopped in the hard shoulder presumably to assist, so knew there no point of me to do the same, so I carried on .

Ive had a few warning from Google Maps of objects on the road. As you are able to press one of the options on the right to warn others if using it to navigate, if safe to do so of course.

Absolutely. Very useful to have cars ahead. Would add that cyclists can get hidden as well…and often it’s the cars ahead going out into the middle of the road that is the clue.

I was expecting the footage to show a ☠ Animal - or a runaway but that list barely covers the potential for whatever we might come across 😮.

A few years ago my mum did hit a piece of wood like this at speed (Although we were on a motorway), it was followed by a ride home in a police van by a kind officer and a hole in the sump.

I was doing 70 on the M60 when a spare wheel had come loose from two cars in front. It was lying face down and there was no braking no swerving much from the cars in front. It just appeared from under an SUV that drove over it in front, with less than a second to react. Needless to say we got walloped, blowing our tyre and bumper. Thankfully no crash and the car was repairable.

I would be tempted to get it out of the road safely, asap. It takes the police 30mins on a good day, if they can be bothered...so 2 minutes clearing the road could stop a major incident

As a biker and a car driver if im ever in the car and its safe to do so i stick hazards on and block the road and move the objects before putting hazards on i stick my arm out the window to warn other drivers of an obstruction to STOP ✋️

You say " hitting wood in the road like this at speed would be a big deal, and it would be time to call the emergency services." But I called the emergency services when I was driving down the M3 early one morning and there was a mattress in the middle lane, and they said that it wasn't an emergency call. 😮
