We recommend investing time into improving and optimizing your recording and mixing workflow first, then expanding your recording knowledge, and then find out what gear you actually need. If you are on a tight budget, you might start with a good pair of over the ear headphones, an audio interface, and a good dynamic mic like the Shure sm58 or sm57. Our favorite DAW for Mac users is Logic Pro, its $199 and has all the included FX, instrument plugins, and mixing options that you need to get started!
