Well it’s just to get enough charge to get the battery to recognise the battery is good and will let it charge but sometimes depends, the battery will always get hot that’s why the charger has a fan built in

Hello, yesterday i had the same problem with a BL1430 battery that i used a few hours ago. During the charging with one red led on the charger the battery becomes hot after a few minutes . I try the batt on my makita and it works fine. But i dont trust the situation and i put the battery outside in the garden on a flat stone surface to cool down. After five minutes in the garden, suddently the pack catch fire. I trow the pack in a bucket full of water. Never let charge a battery with no sight on it. For the same price my house burned down.

you need to trickle charge the batteries 1-2 mA @ 12-14v then after the battery reaches 10v you can bump the current to 125mA @ 12-14v til battery is fully charged @ 19-21v

Doing that will charge the dead battery but can burn out the good one, the makita charger will never charge it again as the chip tells the charger not to charge it ever again.
what you did will work with a dewalt battery

2 batteries for $100 well I've got 5 battery packs barely used them they lost voltage by just sitting and now they won't charge so I'm looking at $250 for replacing barely used batteries thanks Makita.
Wouldn't it be nice if Makita used circuitry in their charger that could see the difference between a bad cell and just a low voltage state...but then they wouldn't be selling as many battery packs.
EDIT: apparently Makita batteries have a chip in them and if voltage drops below a certain voltage the chip locks the battery preventing charge, there are Chinese companies that sell a new chip that has to be installed but I've read it's not easy to do and doesn't guarantee it will work.

Buy a Makita tool for use in every season, lawn mower, leaf blower, that way you always use the battery and make Makita more sales. LOL, nice marketing strategy.

My 18v drill got broken by a pickup and the battery got fucked 1 month later the other one died

When the driller got fucked the batt was out so to see if it was wirking i inserted th batt in my broken driller to find out

When i got home i inserted the batt in my compact to see if the batg was ok (it wasnt)

Anyways both of the batt got really hot 1 kept working untill today? I basically only have 1 compact driller now...
