Explaining my thoughts on open box laptops at best buy... this video was not meant to derail anyone or Best Buy, if anything I hope people are more open to buying laptops that were abandoned and reducing e-waste!

I brought a s21 ultra open box-excellent, I know phones are way different, but the phone is running anywhere from 900-1100 dollars right now and I got it for $720, and it works perfectly fine and there’s no damage

My 14inch M1pro is $2499, got it for $2323. It was immaculate, the only issue it had was a missing box. I was surprised/ upset when they brought it out in a plastic bag. Then I thought about it, $176 discount for a box that I don't need? Not a bad deal.

For your comment on open-box with “minor scratches” they’re literally just returns/exchanges. The system has that almost like a “default” condition even if it looks flawless. Open boxes are p legit

Bought a Best Buy open box Dell G15 gaming notebook and it stopped working and it was outside of the Best Buy return window so sent it to Dell to repair it. They opened it up and found liquid damage (which is probably why the person returned the computer to Best Buy), and said that they wouldn't repair it due to the liquid damage under warrantee. That left me with a $1000 brick, or pay the cost to repair it... I got on the BB bulletin board and posted my issue and the local store manager didn't have the same model in stock, but gave me a comparable one with the same specs from a different manufacture. I really dodged a bullet, but they did make it right.

Bought an open box Asus zephyrus, took it home and found out someone had removed the graphics card from the laptop, and returned it to best buy. Best buy ordered me a brand new one and had it next day delivered to me.

I returned a mac air right as m1 came out within the 14 days absolutely nothing wrong just too slow. I was really hoping to rebuy it cheaper as an open box online😂

Even when geek squad said they couldnt repair due to back order from Covid19; they're refusing any sort of return for other than store credit..mine was close box.. did see where they recently settled a lawsuit in San Diego because of shady refund policy..

Strip screws could have happened in the manufacture process. Could of been there when bought new.

I have bought two open box laptops now and they BOTH lagged like hell. One doesn't even have working bluetooth!!

The bottom line is, people mostly return the laptops for a reason, then you are stuck dealing with that reason, lol

BestBuy open-box is literally Amazon's Used-Like New.
But if the discount is quite significant (15%+) then consider it refurbished where some pieces might've been changed or the item has cosmetic damages, nevertheless not impacting the performance.

what do you use to run full diagnostics TODAY on the CPU, RAM and GPU. I'm looking for the best open-source/free tools for EACH category even if and especially if that means using different tools? ANd when you say run diagnostics I'm assuming you're also including some sort of tool to benchmark test these things?

I see a ‘satisfactory’ open box for the zephyrus g15. It gonna save me around $300. You think it’s a good idea to get satisfactory? Also with open box can you return them or replace them for a new one if it’s damaged.
