DIY Spray Bar for Undergravel Filter | How to make DIY Undergravel filter Spray Bar

Spray bars are amazing, but what isn't amazing is the price they cost in store to buy one. So today I wanted to share with you all how I made my DIY UGF Spray Bar with a power head.

In total all of this costs me $5 to make, but could cost even less to make depending on what you already have laying around from other projects.

The materials needed for this project include:
A length of PVC that you want to use
A PVC end cap
A PVC adapter to your screwable connection
A barb to screw into the screwable portion
A tube to fit the barb size and the powerhead adapter

The Tools used in this project:
PVC Cutters
Drill
1/4 drill bit
Teflon tape
old heater suction cups

If you place a length of airline off a 13x4mm reduced T, between pump & pvc, way valve on the other end outside the tank, it will act as a vacuum drawing air (bubbles) into the tank, = no air pump required. You could also modify it so the pvc pipe houses the heater, even flow, no burns etc.

Great. This is awesome. This idea could be used to make a stream style tank too for fish that want a lot of current like for some of the native fish.

Check out Dr Kevin Novak here on youtube - very interesting ideas on how to use the UGF for optimum system - he uses really slow flow, he says that it was when the flow was increased that UGF became less effective...and fell out of popularity.
