You know, this seems like a dedicated, talented teacher who really believes what she says. But these ads completely obscure what CTA, or any union, should be about: TO PROTECT TEACHERS from the many bad actors who would do them professional or fiscal harm. CTA is not here to tell us to be inspired and inspiring; it’s not here to support kids; it’s not here to represent students’ interests at all. Students already have two entities to represent them: their parents, who do it because they love them, and the district, who do it because of extreme legal repercussions if they don’t. Teachers are represented by neither. We are hated by parents and the district couldn’t care less whether we live or die. The union is the ONLY entity that represents us, and its entire job is TO represent us, full stop. Parents, students and taxes do not fund CTA: we do. That means CTA has no business getting into advocacy of any kind other than advocacy DIRECTLY related to protecting the teachers who pay them!!!!
