To perform a squat with a chair:

1. Put a chair behind you for a target and support. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and facing forward.
2. Keeping your knees behind your toes, squat down while sticking your bottom out and bringing your chest forward. Touch the chair lightly with your bottom and stand back up.

Dr Jo, squats always hurt my knees. My knees don’t go over the toes, my but goes out but they still hurt the knees, like where the knee cap is. Are there alternative to squat exercises?

Hello Doctor Jo: during the pandemic I had a hysterectomy and had an excellent outcome. I had bladder PT and had a question regarding squats, should I or shouldn't I do them daily? Thanks for your channel and your great health info!♥

I noticed the shoulders are in line with the knees while you’re hinging. Right?

Dr Jo, I know its late in the day but can you over do this with the chair ?. I have got to 20, very good considering I could do only 2 when I started. oh and my back is bent over, but I remember not to get my knees past my toes.

is this the same as a sit to stand exercise?

In regards to the muscles used, what is the difference between squats with a chair and sit to stand exercise? Does one take precedence over the other for folks like me that must add a "block/cushion" for either exercise?
