Good info. side note. my Dad was an aircraft mechanic. I believe he said, back then that the civilian aircraft he worked on were 24v. When he was young he witnessed a coworker melt his watch on his wrist by 'tangling' with 24v cables / tools. That was the last day my Dad ever wore a ring, watch, neckless, anything while working on aircraft.

There are two more ground wires right next to the distributor. Great vid.

i have a 99 jeep cherokee. same problem, intermittently shuts off, runs rough, a couple times just shuts down and wont start. everyone with this problem should jump the ignition switch red and blue wire. put a switch between the jump so you can turn it off and on. drive the car with the switch on and see if this takes care of your problem. if it does then its your ignition switch, not the key tumbler, but the switch box that the wire connector plugs into. about a $40 part. i went through a lot cleaning grounds, new coil, cap, and wires, checking wire looms and it ended up being the ignition switch. my problem was intermittent so i put the jumper switch on and drove for a few weeks without a problem before i spent the $ for the switch. hope this helps someone

4.0 L usually also have ground wires / cables on the side of the engine behind the alternator. And sometimes by the rear of the engine by the transmission bell housing. Have heard of people having grounding problems in all of those places also.

Jeeps are famous for ground issues. Check and clean yearly, and is a plus to put Vaseline on connections

Ground the bracket that holds the relays and fuses, jeep liked to use aluminium rivets to hold brackets to the sheetmetal, over time the aluminum oxidizes and the bracket becomes a bad ground reference to any electrical part grounding to it, this fixed my renix comanche, it wouldn't even start on hot days

Cool. Recent jeep had loose battery wires, but i had an older one that was doing this because the key chip was failing, a locksmith got me a new key and repaired ignition switch for about $35.

I have this problem now. So I'll check all these ground wires, thank you!

i was getting high voltage codes and stalling/rough idle (1997 Cherokee). i checked for vacuum leaks and inspected all the wiring pretty closely. I replaced a few simple things that made no difference. After i refreshed the grounds as described in this video, zero problems and the check engine light disappeared on the first drive.

My 98 Xj has given me issues.i replaced idle air control valve, tps sensor, re grounded all ground wires, and it has been pretty much fine since.also spark plugs for the xj.switch then out never use champion or auto lite.either get Bosch plugs or ngk.the champion plugs and auto lites the electrodes are prone to cracking and will get in your cylinder and destroy your cylinder

My folks have a 1996 jeep cherokee sport 4.0
On those ground wire that are bolted down with a sheet metal screw🙄. Weld an grade 8 upside down skinny bolt and cut off those factory connectors and crimp on new ones then solder them and once their tightened down put dielectric grease onnthe contact areas. There are 3 ground wires on the passenger side engine between the fire wall and the distributor also repeat the prosses as I mentions above . it will have better ground connections 👍. I also welded a bolt in place of the far sheet metal screw on the gender well next to the battery of the skinny ground wires to anchor to

If you remove the battery while it’s running, does it shut off?

My Jeeps rpm needle spiked while I was driving then shut off on me... moments later after I got it running I got on the highway and the Battery needle spiked to 19v ... the following day the Jeep did not wanna start...

I checked all the grounds and fuses... I started the Jeep and disconnect the negative terminal and the Jeep shut off... so I immediately thought it’s a bad alternator so I replaced it.... installed it, but it still does the same thing... I’m not sure what it could be..
