In Vikrant Unfiltered Episode 4, the focus shifts to the 2011 World Cup-winning team and the lesser-known dynamics between MS Dhoni and some key players like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan. While Dhoni is celebrated as one of India’s greatest captains, this episode reveals that his relationship with these senior players wasn’t as smooth as many would assume.

The episode highlights how, despite Dhoni's tactical genius and calm demeanor, his personal connection with Yuvraj, Harbhajan, Gambhir, and Zaheer wasn’t particularly strong. Tensions simmered beneath the surface, with differing opinions and approaches creating a certain distance between the captain and these key contributors to India's World Cup triumph.

This episode offers an insightful exploration of how these cracks in relationships didn’t necessarily affect performance on the field but did shape the team’s internal dynamics. The narrative challenges the often romanticized image of the 2011 World Cup team, showing that even in the midst of victory, all wasn’t perfect behind the scenes. Watch as Vikrant dives deep into the complexities of team relationships and uncovers a side of the story that few have discussed openly before.

Dhoni dropped :

Sehwag for Rohit, he became greatest opener.
Gambhir for Dhawan, he became one of the greatest of India.
Gave gambhir's place to Kohli, he became greatest of the generation.
Harbhajan for Ashwin, he became India's greatest spinner.
Jadeja, he became India's greatest all-rounder.
Zaheer for Bhuvi and Shami, they also became one of the greatest.

You guys only talk about he dropped seniors but nobody praise him for making career of n number of youngsters.

It was 100% right of Dhoni to leave the captaincy immediately to let someone lead who can do better job at that point immediately. Completely selfless act - just dhoni can do it.

Dhoni is praised because he valued what was important for the country. He kept emotions aside and took hard decisions. No other captain could ever do that before or after him.

The fact is....IF IND WINS IT'S NOT ONLY DHONI....BUT IF IND LOOSE IT'S ONLY CAPTAIN DHONI
All whitewashes was coz of Dhoni...but all ICC WINS series wins it's about All TEAM not only Captain.

Hypocrisy of Indian media and experts

Rohit Sharma needs 8 sixes to surpass Virender Sehwag to become India's leading six hitter in Test cricket.
- Hitman, the six machine!

Best conversation and insightful ever at Sports Tak for me. These kind of stories we want to hear. Kudos to Vikrant and Nikhil

The most troubling of Dhoni's hypocrisy is playing until 39 and forcing seniors to retire when they were atleast 5 years younger to that age. Srinivasan lobby kept him at the helm and even employed him a Director post at Srinivasan company when he had not retired.. biggest tragedy of Indian cricket. He ran the national team as his personal fiefdom. I still remember attending a press conference where he got a journalist on stage disrespecting him when all he did was ask very direct questions. People forget him gobbling deliveries in a must win match in 2019.. He was arrogant, entitled and hypocrite towards the end

Wrong Story told,
Dhoni did make sachin sit out for 3rd odi 2012 as per rotation, you can check. Dhoni wanted to play youngsters Raina Rohit Kohli together for the experience 2015 wc.
The seniors were not happy with this and when for 1 Match Dhoni was banned, Sehwag became captain and he instantly dropped Rohit.
Subsequent matches all 3 openers played together with Rohit dropped.

Those who know cricket and followed Indian team during 2011 WC would tell - Even though they are MSD fans - MSD pulled a master stroke by promoting himself in WC final, but GG’s golden innings was the base for that victory. And no one will ever forget what Yuvi and Zahir did in that WC.
It’s a team sport, we the fans and media are responsible for making Dhoni an only hero of that WC. On the other hand, captain of the WC team would be remembered for long time than the individual heroes.. what you remember from 83 final - Kapil’s catch, but not Kris Shrikanth’s highest score among all. In 87, remember Border’s courageous decisions, but not Boon and Jones’ consistent batting. In 99 you remember Steve Waygh’s famous innings against SA, but not the impact by Gilchrist, Ponting and Warne.

I don't understand why no one criticizes Sachin Tendulkar for prolonging his ODI career even after winning 2011 WC. In my opinion when his dream of winning the World Cup came true on 2nd April 2011 he should have on that night declared that he was retiring ODI cricket. If he was awaiting for his 100 international 100s he should have travelled to the test series in West Indies that year. He would have fancied his chances against a weaker bowling unit in the Carribean. For me all the crap which was taking place regarding rotational policy in Australia in 2012 wouldn't have occurred if Sachin retired from ODI cricket on the night when India won the 2011 World Cup. Then the CB Series 2012 would have been played with a settled opening pair of Sehwag and Gambhir throughout, with both Raina, Rohit gaining experience to play in Australia in the middle order.

Rahul Dravid played 2009 champions trophy and also compaq cup in 2009 in Sri Lanka in which Sachin Tendulkar made a century in final.

One thing i observed from this conversation is that N. Shrinivasan Saved MSD, is it bcz he was and is the face of CSK, if he would have been sacked as captain it was possible that CSK would have lost its brand value ?
