DLSS 3 Frame Gen vs FSR 3.1 Frame Gen Performance Benchmarks

In this video we'll be testing the performance differences between DLSS 3 Frame Generation and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation. We'll be testing 4 games that all received FSR 3.1 updates recently, namely Spider-Man Remastered, Ghost of Tsushima, Ratchet and Clank, as well as Horizon: Forbidden West.

Spider-Man Remastered definitely has some issues with DLSS 3 Frame Generation as at 4K the frame rate is lower with it enabled than disabled. But all the other games see a decent increase in the framerate with DLSS frame generation enabled.

FSR 3.1 implemented a very big change and that is that AMD's FSR Frame Generation can be used with any upscaler, whether that is DLSS, XeSS, or even TSR or IGTI. This makes it possible to do like for like performance comparisons between DLSS 3 Frame Generation and FSR 3 Frame Generation.

For anybody interested in the input latency differences between DLSS 3 FG and FSR 3.1 FG here is a detailed video using an external latency monitor. They are very close, and sometimes DLSS FG wins, and other times FSR FG wins, but very small differences either way.

For those wondering why there is no latency number on screen, it's because GeForce Experience is not able to detect the generated frames when using FSR Frame Generation, and it shows only render latency, but at a much lower value than it actually is. When using DLSS Frame Generation that number changes to "Average PC Latency" which is a completely different value. Without an actual external latency meter it is not easy to get correct latency numbers, but they feel very similar as the base frame rate is identical before enabling frame generation.

Will give a thumbs up for good faith based on your epic content recently.
Will move this in my "watch" list .. but keep the content coming and pre grats to 3k subs
🥳🎉

The really good thing is many games are not locked into just one technology anymore, and choices are king.

The number of frames really doesn't matter. Whats more important is the quality of the generated frames. That's gonna be the difference between a bad image and a good one.

Great job! AMD did pretty good work with FSR 3 frame generation. You'd get even higher amount of generated frames on an alternative AMD gpu in some cases. At least that's been my experience.

i tested fsr3 fg on cod mw3 and the game is not smooth and it has too much imput lag :/

Where is the average pc latency what is the point of the comparing the fps when the input lag is always 60+

love the look at this and what I love most is that they do not lock the tech behind the RX 70xx series nvidia couldn't even be bothered to grant RTX 30xx users the tech and amd has shown that it can be done a pro-consumer move I don't even know if nvidia knows what that is at this point

I have to disagree with the general consensus in this comment section. AMDs frame gen tech might produce more frames, but it still suffers from the input delay and lack of smoothness that you get from a Software based technology that works on almost anything vs the hardware based tech that the RTX 40 series have. I hope AMD can continue to compete though. All competition is good.

ai took more power and longer time to gen, nvidia user uses DLSS+FSRFG for best quality and good perf

3060 laptop owner 6g vram. I find games likely to work better in 4K when using FSR compared to DLSS just because it uses less vram. Only problem is FSR is no where near as good as DLSS. It can look really bad killing immersion sometimes.

irony, many people/YouTubers give praise to amd but they still use nvidia products lol

Not sure but with fsr frame gen i feel much higher latency and the picture looks worts than dlss fame gen. But its good to have tho. They just need to fix the fsr upscaler as look like crap.

I find myself using FSR instead of DLSS quite often in games these days with my 4080 Super. The newest FSR looks like native 4k to me, especially in Dragon's Dogma 2. Last year when my main GPU was a 6950XT I don't think FSR was as good as it is now.

I was trying everything to understand why at 4k my rtx 4060 doesn't improve framerate. Like a dragon behaves exactly like your Spiderman. But ther reason why you see improvement in 4k is because you use high settings. Go back and out it on 4k performance and put the settings down. You will 100% end up with less fps with dlss frame generation.

Its not a vram thing for sure. I think the rtx cards are fed with more frames to upscale and because of that, it doesn't have any headroom left. Thats why in spiderman, when you lowered the settings you saw less fps with dlss fg.

At 4k the rtx cards have to work so hard with upscaling that they are not able to make ise of the fg feature. At 1440k its even not really effective anymore. At 1080p it works as it should.

Really really disappointing and im shocked to see that besides you no one has ever mentioned this problem.

In most of the games i am able to feel input lag and sometimes more than fsr3 fg . Hope so they fix this

For me FSR is unplayable... Once I have it in any game the difference in mouse smoothness is drastic.
It doesn't feel smooth at all.
It's not smooth with FPS unlocked at 144Hz or locked at 120PS.
Everyone says how much smoother the games are with this, but to me it feels like a feature that will push us back more.
I'm used to playing with Gsync+vsync+120FPS, but not a single game with Frame Generation is smooth.

Utter bullshit, you're totally missing the forest for the trees. Fsr3 FG isn't actually hardware accelerated, it borrows compute from the GPU to do the frame generation. You can only get good performance if you aren't GPU limited, unlike DLSS3 FG. THE WHOLE POINT of frame generation is to enhance motion fluidity of the highest image quality possible (RT, highest settings etc.), not to get the most frames like an esports player! FSR3 is INHERENTLY INFERIOR to DLSS3FG because it doesn't actually make use of specialized hardware (eg Tensor Cores and Optical Flow processing)

This is obviously a flawed example that is definitely not GPU limited. But even here, the frame pacing issues are not going to be visible on youtube. STOP COVERING FOR AMD!
