Picking the Last Loads of Ear Corn with New Idea Uni Harvester/Harvest 2022 is Done!

Picking corn is almost done with the New Idea Uni Harvester Corn Picker. The 6-row picker is filling wagons pretty quickly, which was surprising to everyone because there was that much corn there. There are about 4 acres of corn left from chopping corn earlier this Fall. The Deer and Turkey in the area have definitely been sampling quite heavily, so we wanted to pick some to see if there was enough corn to set up the Owatonna 205 elevator in the Corn Crib. There obviously was. The International 1256 is running the Minnesota Gravity Box, and the Farmall B is running the elevator. Finally the last rows are picked and put into the crib which is about half full!

Nice shot of the full wagon going across snow covered field. Nice to be DONE. I don't farm but grew up on one and work in Grain industry. Harvest over is a Big Relief!!! For all of us that are doing it! 😁

Boy does this bring back memories. I remember picking corn into January we had the exact equipment, I think our UNI had a 3 row head. I always wished we combined, we would have finished quicker, very few farmers picked corn, most combined I image very few pick corn these days. I don't understand why picking corn was more popular, so much easier to store than the corn combined.

Back in the 60"s true 80's my dad and I raised seed corn in central NE. Started harvest labor day weekend with three row head, 703 power unit and 727 husking bed. Did seed corn till the first hard freeze then put the sheller unit on, were able to finish around Thanksgiving. Many 16 to 20 hour days. Did around 2000 acres. Good that you finished. Keep the machines running.

Riding in the cab of the Uni Corn picking was surprisingly quiet. Cut your corn stalks and bake them in the spring for next year. They will be much drier and much more brittle. So they will make better bedding material.
