I resolved to stop using systemd based distros when I found a bug in the cypto boot loader (the part that takes my keyboard input to access the block encryption keys for full disk encryption) was actually a systemd bug! I freaked out.. WHY should the init script system be taking user input, even before the pivotroot and init system starts? Its tendrils have gone too deep into every aspect of the system (user logins, passwords and even cypto keys.. Really?)
Forget it..
The community was obviously deceived into thinking it would simply replace systemV.
It's completely out of control, too large to audit/trusted.

part of me wants to go to 4chan just to see a board lose its mind over the mention of SystemD

Gentoo, slackware, and antiX don't use systemd.

following that logic, so is the linux kernel.

Weird to think this video is already a year old. I remember when it was just uploaded.

yeah yeah.. interesting... just ... I use gentoo (does not use systemd).. and my software is all up-to-date.. Normal software does not need systemd.
Maybe KDE/GNOME or those other fancy desktops do somehow? I guess not either.. even so I have not installed them.. so I don't know.. I suspect not.

There is still a Grub2 option to boot Lubuntu 16.04 with Upstart though some third party packages might not work properly without tweaking unless you boot with Systemd.

Its open source with the same licence as the Linux kernel last time I checked. I mean you could easily scan thru it and see any code that doesn't belong no matter how complex it is. Add onto that its rapidly growing popularity means more deep divers like yourself will be scanning thru it looking for bugs and glitches.

I still trust it a whole of a lot more then Windows and some measure of standardisation is required in the Linux world. Also, even if something is 30 years old, does not automatically mean its "good" since you'll have unnecessary processes and code written 30 years ago still in service. (You'll also have sections that have gone unmaintained for decades that could be full of security bugs)

Personally most systems in the Linux world have a pretty low bar to entry compared to their proprietary counterparts. I am sure someone will eventually write a competitor to systemd and it like so many other commonly used components will be replaced with something else that does the job systemd does, but better.

I stopped paying attention when the C language phobia was expressed.

*Unpopular Opinion*: I like systemd, I think it's easier to use then a lot of the other init systems. Some inits require you to copy a file to the init folder then you reboot. On systemd, you just run "systemctl enable [service]" then "systemctl start [service]" and you don't need to reboot.

Why can't this person narrate their own video or at least get somebody to do it for them, instead of using the stupid robot text reader, it sounds ridiculous.

this clown using the robot voice is flat out misinformed even if i don't personally like sysd. he says that sysv didnt have issue and didnt need replacing which is a lie, and not true whatsoever. it needed features it didn't have. that is a fact. sysd's mortal sin was just overshooting the goal and scope of init which violates the unix philosophy fundamentally. keep it simple. all they really needed was to impliment something like runit on top of it or replace it totally or some same thing with another init like openrc. sysd once accepted everywhere and utilized by 3rd party software in repos made it impossible in application to replace it with these other alternatives. we are getting to the point though it is possible to have everything you need and no sysd. well gentoo was always an option i say possible for mere mortals ig who are not using gentoo or lfs they built even the latter would need some way to set use flags easily like portage in make.conf because at least -systemd in use flag will stop any future sysd dependencies from installing in gentoo and it's spins

systemd may be bloated in some sense but NSA and US goverment... pfff it was rediculous.
