Recognising signs of SPD

Difficulties can occur with any of our senses.

These are some examples of what this might look like in a child.

Touch
Touches and feels everything
Keeps putting puzzle pieces in wrong place
Hates wearing sock or jumpers or walking barefoot

Taste
Loves spicy food
Puts too much food in their mouth
Doesn't like food textures mixed together

Hearing
Loves making noise
Hard to hear verbal cues
Hates loud noises

Vision
Loves flicking lights on and off
Can't keep on track with homework
Hates bright lights

Olfactory (smell)
Loves smelling everything
Doesn't recognise smells
Hard to be around strong smells

If you feel something isn't quite right, further assessment may be needed.

Services often have waiting lists and early intervention is the key!
