the reason it was banned is because first, it was gearing more towards the suit > swimmer, not swimmer > suit, and second, fina didn’t want the average swimmer to have to pay thousands of dollars to be competitive.

It’s actually interesting because Michael Phelps complained about it giving some swimmers more of an advantage and it being a disadvantage to those who couldn’t get it

As a swimmer, while suits can definitely give you an advantage in some cases, winning relies mostly on pure skill. The people who won/beat records probably would have done it regardless is they wore the suits. But it definitely could increase their time by some seconds which makes all the difference.

And at the 2009 Worlds, Arena & Jaked suits were even faster than the LZR. The LZR had polyeurathane panels, Arena & Jaked just made their whole suit out of polyeurathane
