Great real world review. I'm tired of all these auto voice over reviews just spitting out specs and options plagiarized from another article, and I'm glad to see an actual hands on review. It's interesting to see your take on the vehicle, it seems there are many new features that reviewers will either love or hate. You mentioned the delay in acceleration and called it turbo lag, but from what I'm gathering so far is it seems less like turbo lag and more of a DSG characteristic or transmission software tuning. My 430i with the ZF 8 speed automatic does the same thing, and if it's the same amount of delay I think I'll be fine with it. Another thing to note is that with the M Sport Package you can actually quickly switch to Sport Mode by toggling the shift nub down once more, or by pulling one of the paddles, and the infotainment system will also switch to the Sport theme. I'm eagerly anticipating the arrival of my M Sport X1 in the next couple of weeks (ordered 9/19), and reviews like yours help me keep the excitement high!

Thanks for the great review! We’ve ordered one fully loaded and even at that price (at least in US) it’s still so much more for your $ than anything else in its class and even above with some other brand SUVs. We are getting it to downsize from an Acura MDX as we don’t need the 7-seater anymore. We have a 4 Grand Coupe M and know the X1 won’t be as powerful by a long shot but are looking forward to having a lot of the BMW luxuries at a much lower price point.

Thanks for this video and the review. We very much enjoyed it! Just to note that my wife and I picked up an M version of this X1 last week. And we love it!

Good review, thanks. A few inputs. It is not a twin turbo it is a "twin power" turbo, (easy to think it is a twin turbo, right?). Twin power means that the exhaust manifold splits the gasses and sends it through two scrolls on the same shaft of a single turbo. I agree some hot keys would be good, but you can set any widget with just a pull down, so that is the way to get a hot key to quickly get to a favourite setting like auto start/stop. You also don't have to say "Hey BMW" and wait, just hit the mic button and speak. It will learn your voice as fast as you learn commands. If you want shifting, the M Sport is required (ZQX).

I completely agree that the X1 is the most important non-electric vehicle in BMW's lineup. Too bad the iX isn't here in NA. It is hard to put this up against a UX, as it competes/compares with the Lexus NX, which you can get in a hybrid but without a turbo or a turbo without a hybrid. It does compete with the Q3 and the XC40. Lastly, the B48 in the 2023 X1 is paired to a 7 speed dual clutch transmission WITH mild hybrid technology, which should help mitigate the turbo lag you indicated.

Our MSport petrol arrived in November in Australia. Great car, love the interior and the tech is amazing. My key is electronic, sits in my Apple Wallet. Only downside is the road noise, probs due to 20” run flat tyres.

Greetings from the U.K. 🇬🇧. We have 2 x plug in PHEV variants on offer here. They’ll be on my ‘consider’ list when I change my BMW 330e MSport Touring ( PHEV) ❤

Paddle shift Automatic adds $$$$ as do decent looking 19-20" wheels.
BMW forces the expensive packages with these choices pushing the price past $57, 000 CAD.

As wonderful they come, they go up in flames too while driving. My X1 went up in flames while driving on an elevated flyover, barely survived.

Could you expand on why the x1 is better than the xc40 in terms of drivability? I test drove the xc40 which I liked a lot better than the Audi q3. Still waiting to test drive the x1.

Is the lag from a dead stop worse than in any other gasoline-powered turbo car with auto trans?

You have the same test model car judging by the license plate that Sam CarLegion put out his test drive 2 weeks ago, saying the power was meh... needing more power... I disagree with his opinion on that, as this has more torque than the x3 and is lighter. think he has been testing too many fast vehicles lately lol...

Nice review, complex Turbo engine but at least it is not complex as EV or Hybrid.
I would recommend this vehicle and owners should do oil change every 5, 000 kms to keep everything nice lubricated. What am I saying!!!! This is a lease vehicle…no one keeps their BMW more than 3 years…it’s old pair of shoes.

Thankyou_
