'Giving him something he can feel' still a banger

I was a woman in my early adulthood when our fabulous greats like our Sisters' here hit the scene. I grew up in an environment where color wasn't even a thought. We all came together in dance, music, and in friendship on the dance floor, at people's homes, and Jammin in the car together. My friends came together in nothing short of friendship, love and respect. I am Ukrainian on my mother's side of the family, and my father is from the original people of Canada or as many refer to, (Native Peoples). We didn't think of color, race, or religion. We just shared our lives, loved each other, and respected each other. We danced, lived, loved, shared our moments, and loved who we loved. Mike drop. Grandma Lori.C.

Don't feel bad about saying you like En Vogue better than Destiny's Child. They have given the credit to En Vogue saying there wouldn't be a Destiny's Child without them.

As a young white girl, growing up in the Suburban Hellscape of Michigan, this album opened up a whole new universe for me! Almost 30 years later, I'm still a fan of En Vogue, and this song is still a whole vibe! ❤❤❤

En Vogue and Boyz II Men hit around the same time and blew the lid off of everything. Group R&B and pop after that owes everything those two groups.

These lady groups of the nineties were groundbreaking in their open discussion about current event issues that we still battle to this day. Salt N Pepa had 'Let's Talk About Sex' and it was eye opening and brought the subject of sex to the forefront. En Vogue talking HARD about prejudice. Groups like this brought the talk to the table. We still have so much to learn and do.

My favorite part about the statement of the song is that they are an R&B/Hip-Hop band, but they went completely to rock for this song to show they aren't stuck in a stereotypical genre because they are a black woman group. Always loved En Vogue, super talented.

They were one of the biggest bands in the world in the early 90s. “Hold On” really changed the music temperature. They were game changers.

Two more great En Vogue songs: “Hold On” and “Don’t Let Go.” These women can sing!! And dance. So much attitude and charisma too.

"Before you can read me, you've gotta learn how to see me!" Such amazing lyrics.

They paved the way for Destiny's Child.

Being a metalhead, I was never into girl groups, boy bands, or pop of any kind, but when I heard this song, I liked this group immediately. Voices are incredible and message and lyrics in this song are phenomenal.

Wouldn't it be nice if this were applied today? "Free your mind and the rest will follow. Be colorblind, don't be so shallow."

"Funky Divas" is an excellent 90's album, which includes "My Loving (You're Never Gonna Get It), "Love Don't Love You", a funked up version of The Beatles' "Yesterday" and a fantastic remake of Aretha's "Giving Him Something He Can Feel". Their hit "Hold On" from their debut album is also worth checking out.

This has it all: vocals, attitude, outfits, moves, lyrics and a killer band and a fantastic video - one of the best from that decade. Watching it today I suddenly had to think of 'Are You Gonna Go My Way ' by Lenny Kravitz. And yup, they are both directed by the same guy - Mark Romanek.

This song and Janet Jackson's "Black Cat" were absolute kickass rock and roll...with soul. I loved both of them back in the day.
