Apex/ Skyclad 58. LSD/ Nervous Breakdown/ Stoned. The sticker on the shrink wrap stated "Vinyl Is Not Dead!" In 1988 it seemed that vinyl dying was a real possibility. CD's had completely taken over and people were dumping their record collections left and right (I was not one of those people). Full effort was put into making this release pretty unusual. 10" clear pink vinyl - OK, not crazy yet. But then...the A-Side plays from the inside out. That's right, you drop the needle near the label and it plays to the edge. Oh but wait, it gets weirder. There are 2 songs on side 2. However, there are 2 sets of grooves that run parallel to each other. When you lower the needle it drops into one of the two grooves so either of the 2 songs might play. On my copy 9 of 10 times "Nervous Breakdown" plays. It was pretty tough to get "Stoned" to play. As a side note "Stoned" London 9641 was going to be on the Stones very first 45, to be released in the US in March 1964. Promo copies were pressed and sent to radio stations. Word quickly got back to London Records that there was no chance it would get airplay. They pulled the release but not before some stock copies were pressed. Most were destroyed but a handful got out. A purple and white stock copy would get you a small fortune today.
