Raffles City Tower is the 42-story office component of the Raffles City complex. It was designed as a square prism, having similar floorplates as the North Tower of the Fairmont hotel and complementing the round shapes of Swissôtel The Stamford and Fairmont’s South Tower. Unlike the hotel towers, however, it lacked balconies. The building, recently refurbished in 2012, had a double-height lobby directly connected with Raffles City Shopping Centre, though visitors were obligated to enter from the street due to turnstiles placed right at the entrance from the mall. Levels 3 and 4 of the tower footprint housed part of the mall and the convention center, and actual office space began from level 5. The offices occupied up to level 39, with a three-level mechanical penthouse topping the tower. Notable tenants include the embassy of Hungary as well as the Singapore delgation of the European Union.

The building had thirteen elevators in total, with twelve passenger elevators divided into low-, mid- and high-rise banks of four units each along with a service elevator. All units had Otis’ Elevonic 401 controllers, and were powered by DC gearless machines. This video features the bank of low-rise elevators, serving levels 5 through 17. They also had buttons for levels 3 and 4, though those had been blanked out and deactivated. These, as was the case with other passenger elevators, had AK10 buttons and custom Series 1 indicators when originally installed (the service elevator had similar fixtures, albeit with vandal-resistant buttons, until quite recently), but were modernized with Shanghai STEP EB960 buttons, acrylic walls and LCD monitors during the building’s renovation in 2012―the earliest modernization among all elevators within the entire Raffles City complex. The motor and the logic had remained orignal, however. Their speed was alright if not a little slow for 17 floors, and ran very smoothly with fast enough, but not that fast acceleration.
