Bullshit! As an animator, there is no substitute for storyboarding. It's not always elaborate. Simple thumbnail sketches of figures posing, shapes that acts as objects and some notes on the side is simple storyboarding a scene. This is artist instinct to create a blueprint before the artwork hit the canvas.
