Hidden Gems of Tallinn
Join me as we explore some of Tallinn’s most fascinating and lesser-known sites. Our journey begins at the Tallinn Open Air Museum, where you can step into Estonia’s past and experience rural life. We’ll then head to the eerie abandoned Russian nuclear site near Viimsi. From 1959 to 1968, this site hosted a Soviet high-altitude air defense system with an S-75 missile unit. A nuclear warhead was stored in a nearby hangar, and the missile launchers were arranged in a distinctive hexagonal pattern. The Secrets of Soviet Tour still lets visitors trace where the missiles were stored. After the Soviet Union left Estonia in 1991, nuclear weapons were sent to Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. These countries later signed the Lisbon Protocol and returned the weapons to Russia.
Finally, we’ll visit the stunning Arvo Pärt Centre nestled in the woods outside of Tallinn. This eco-friendly and modern concert hall and cultural centre is dedicated to the renowned Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. Designed to blend with nature, the centre pays tribute to Pärt’s minimalist style, offering a peaceful, reflective space for visitors and concerts.
This tour perfectly combines Estonia’s rich history, Cold War remnants, and a celebration of its cultural legacy.
