I saw him play "Misrlou" at the Carl Wilson Foundation benefit in Hollywood back in Oct. 2008. He left no doubt that he was still King of the Surf Guitar. I kept expecting to see smoke coming out of the guitar amp! Afterward he visited with my favorite left-handed guitar player, Evie Sands.

In all fairness, The Beatles' first album Please Please Me had 6 covers out of the 14 songs on the album. Chill out, people have been doing this for a long time

I met him once at a show his son was playing at. Really cool guy.

And this performance was almost 50 years later…that just says a lot…

Albert King, just inducted to the R&R Hall of Fame also played left handed without re-stringing the guitar properly. Just like Dick Dale. Hendrix played traditional style. All 3 are legends, it's all about feel and soul.

Incredible. Drummer's awesome too.

@kleinebudde wrong he is playing a left handed guitar. He just buts the bottom string on the bottom and goes up. Which means the big string is the longest instead of the little string being the longest. It gives a huge tone change

Okay, nice reply, so I'll be more fair this time: To each their own pursuits, and samples have been used very creatively. In many cases, however, I don't consider sample-based performances to be on-par creatively with real musical artists creating from scratch, and many times "sample artists" are hardly even musicians. Sampling is inherently standing on the shoulders of others (which is fine). Yet real Legends like Dick Dale stand on their own.
