Armenian-Georgian love song
Показать описание
I wanted to share this magical moment. In the UNESCO listed Haghpat Monastry in Armenia near the border with Georgia, our wonderful guide Piruza sung a haunting love song written by the C18 Georgian poet Sayat Nova. He was exiled from Georgia because he fell in love with the King’s sister. He was later ordained as a priest in the Armenian Apostolic Church but was subsequently killed in this very same Haghpat Monastery by an invading Persian army.
The haunting melody and his words drifted up to echo around the soaring vault of the church dome - it took our breath away.
