ED Nurses & ancillary staff suffer from this violence too, whether ED patient or visitors. The standard of overcrowded & understaffed EDs for the sake of patient treatment algorithms & corporate profits are the primary factors contributing to the violence. The healthcare industrial complex treats does NOTHING to correct this situation because it's profit driven, not safe staff & patient care driven.

In Germany this is also an issue. Even first responders, police and even firemen are getting attacked.

This is just so true where I live as well. The last time I took someone to my local Emergency room, they had established a little Police station right there where people are checking in to register for whatever it is they are coming in for. This is just so sad when you have to have law enforcement at the same time you're attempting to get medical care. BUT, given the overall conditions we're living in with people who are uninsured, possibly under the influence of illegal drugs and alcohol and the deteriorating consequences of mental health conditions not even mention those persons who are being brought into the Emergency room by necessary reasons under the care for law enforcement under criminal actions! Our society is breaking apart and yet these brave first responders still show up for their shifts 24 hours/ 7 days/365 year! Because really we all expect them TOO!

We have the same problem in India. Assaults on medical professionals saw a surge during the pandemic. Many bereaved family members and relatives often attacked doctors and nurses when they couldn't save their patients. They have also been assaulted by unruly patients. Medical staff from all over the country had protested multiple times but no concrete actions have ever been taken by the Government to safeguard medical staff.

Nurses are rough on mental patients. The hospital is a scary, noisy place.

What a compelling story. Thank you for sharing.

I think that many of us who work in people services are experiencing violence. As a teacher, I get hit almost every day by a student.

I'm an answering service operator for multiple Medical Practices. I take calls from ERs' Staff all over the US and, I've heard the commotion (in very real time) during these attacks.

When health becomes business, vulnerable ppl tend to become violent due to the uncertanties of how they will be treated. Health should be a right and all society should stand for saving human lifes❤ imagine

Medical Error is the third leading cause of death in the United States, so you could say being an ER Doctor is the most dangerous job in the U.S. (for their patients hehe)
