Comparison between Neewer Octagonal Softbox and the Aputure Light Dome Mini ii - mini 2

Small softbox review

Both of these softboxes are incredible and i'm so glad I got to test them side-by-side.

I test the features of the softboxes as well as the quality of light that each of these products produce.

I am an amateur photographer who uses Neewer products a lot and I am more than satisfied with the build quality and price. With anything, if you take care of it, it will last. The minuscule amount of of difference in light quality is negligible. Here is a little news item for you. Only another photographer will notice the shape of the catch light in a subjects eye. If I do take a paying job (I charge a lot because frankly I don't want to bother) the thing people want is a soft flattering light to make them look good. Neewer makes a series of lighting products that fits my needs perfectly. For some one starting out as a professional photographer I believe that they are more than adequate. My go to light modifier is the 32 inch instant square soft box with a grid for key light and a white reflector for the fill. No fuss, no muss and light weight to carry if need be.

After watching nearly 50 videos on lighting, your two or three videos have given me a decision. This was great. South Wales is definitely in the building. Thanks brother, definitely subscribed 👍🏽🎬🎥.

Really good to see the comparisons. It really comes down to the individual’s needs, budget and personal choice of end result. Loved the backdrop also.

I've been using the Neewer for 2 years without problems. I use them with Godox AD200 and speedlights for business portraits.

I was right with A for Aputure. But the difference is miniscule, so that does not justify the price difference. The size difference is important to me as my studio is really small. Hence I am going with the Aputure. Thanks for the test, liked and subscribed.

Before the test comparison came up, you did mention that the Neewer seemed to have a blue cast to the light. Which may be accurate, because I did see a slightly cooler image with the Neewer footage. For me, I'd still go with Aputure because of the sturdier carrying case, the all metal mount, and the inclusion of the honeycomb attachment. Great comparison work.

Well I am really happy with my Godox Softbox, got it with my SL60W and cant complain about it. The Bag it comes in is also really nice to transport and its padded
Great Video, keep on going!

Whoa dude. Whoa. I'm no professional but I definitely couldn't tell. But this is such a good video. I was checking out the Neewer for something to be stationary without moving it. This video helped. Thank you!

i could tell the warmth and shadow difference too. Personally i prefer the Light dome 2 look and will probably invest on one of those. great comparison!

I was actually surprised, at the beginning I thought B was the Aputure.
But I mean, as long as the Neewer plastic doesn't break, it's a huge bang for buck against the Aputure Dome Mini.

I was so torn between which light to buy. This video answered the only question I couldn’t answer myself... can it fit through the door? Thanks for making my choice easy mate 🙌🏼

Just about to purchase the LightDome ii, and now I think my cheap but handy Neewer one is still worth the money. As long as I can’t tell much difference, the clients won’t notice.

The price is obviously. Consideration, but the build and accessories are what would sway me probably.

I have a godox octo box that I bought as my first octo... It's literally falling apart after maybe 2 dozen opens and closes, where my old Chimera stuff was purchased already well-used and will last forever... I've found the cheap stuff is great to get started and find out what works best for you, but when I replace, I'll definitely upgrade to some higher quality ones for my "forever" soft boxes that won't fall apart on some remote shoot one day.

Great video. Tough choice. I think I like the small form factor of the Apurture as well. Also, great videos Sam, keep up the good work.

The included grid and gel holder for the Aputure lights are great features. I have both the large and mini Aputure Lightdomes, and find the large one can be difficult when shooting in small spaces. The large version is better in every way, but if you shoot in small spaces I recommend the small version. Do NOT buy the old style Aputure Lightdomes, as they are a major pain to assemble. The new versions are a good value.

Love it, video quality looked unreal, perfect lighting setup or have you nailed your grading? From what I have seen people tend to go for the Aputure products due to convenience, easy to pack away and constant quality. Neewer is a fantastic budget brand, but not all of their products are consistent so always a little difficult to tell what you'll get!
Also love the back drop, any good recommendations? Seems to be loads of different places to get seamless photopaper online so not sure which will be ideal

Pls. Do a video on120 cm vs 90 cm vs small soft box discussing advantages/cons of having bigger light and small lights with some detailed examples esp. For video shooting.

Videos are there only for flashlight, not for video lights.
