He is doing this to keep the pulley from turning so he can loosen the fan. He doesn't show this part but that is what he is doing. I just replaced the water pump on my 1500 and it works like a charm. Great advice!

Some people say the truck won't overheat with a permanent fan clutch removal what do you think?

I got a fan clutch remover tool that hooks to my air hammer that does the same thing

Jesus how many pulley designs did they have? I’ve seen one with small holes on the inside of the pulley (mine), one with four bolts, and that one with larger holes on the perimeter

Keep the serpentine belt on. Just get a big wrench and a hammer and tap the top of the wrench while pulling in whatever direction you need to untie it
