Of course you have to have an illustrated edition of Alice, if only because, “What is the use of a book without pictures or conversations?”

(Tells me I can't quote Alice, I’ll show him, mumble...grumble...mumble.)

Not as bad as that chap Shakespeare who wrote some plays by just stringing a load of quotations together.

Pachelbel's Canon is the same way. Perfectly beautiful, but... "And you (too) would like us to play Pachelbel's Canon at your wedding? Are you sure? REALLY REALLY sure? Perhaps the violinists could cry or scream in rage at no additional cost?"

I relate to the feeling of being irritated by the overwhelming number of quotes from Alice in Wonderland. Knowing your dislike of philosophy, I thought of how often philosophers do it, which I presume would only multiply the irritation. (New viewer. Love your channel)

I've seen "I only read contemporary ya" booktubers saying that they for sure will never read Shakespeare. I am sad for them but i don't know how to help.

The Lewis Carroll books have lots of mathematical jokes in the them. This makes an annotated edition invaluable because most of us are not mathematicians.

That edition is so beautiful! I love Alice. Would you say Alice is the progenitor of the portal fantasy?

I hear your complaints about over quoting. But I have to admit I love these books. I think they are beautifully written. They may be whimsy; but they are not drivel.

Steve, could you talk more on some of the 2 century old forerunner novels? I know Frankenstein is one. That's a really easy one.

I think the category of booktubers you speak of aren't trying to understand the origin of their genres, but rather they stick to contemporary literature in an attempt to escape history. I guess it'd take someone to convince them to want to like or engage with older books to go back to them! But of course, you're only going to increase the amount they then get quoted which might give you more knee jerk reactions when you yourself read, so maybe it's not in your interest to persuade them!
