QWERTY VS COLEMAK-DH typing comparison

I'm not a fan of the current comparison videos of these on youtube right now. Like that one that's hard to see whats happening (I'm looking at you, that computer generated one) and another one had the person make qwerty look extra inefficient because they weren't using proper typing etiquette. So I made my own.

Unfortunately, the past 10 days I've spent typing with only this layout has completely ruined the muscle memory I've had with qwerty (I started looking down at my keyboard to type lmao). I type under 50wpm with it now (even worse actually) so I had to slow down on colemak to match the slower speed.

I personally think that this comparison would be most fun and easiest to watch if both videos were typing at 70+ wpm but oh well

These videos were recorded with the same passages and ended with the same WPM (48wpm). It's not a perfect side by side comparison but I hope you enjoy.

There wasn't supposed to be audio so my mic was really far away.

If you're wondering about my current colemak speed, it's at around 60-75wpm. Do I regret this? Well... It's a little too late to go back now...

Out of curiosity, what was your reason for switching layouts? I thought you were pretty fast on QWERTY already.

i switched to colemak 3 years ago because my wrists said "lmao bye" when using qwerty. colemak fixed my typing posture and i'm faster than i was with qwerty (peaking at 140wpm on a 30s test using colemak, qwerty only did about 120 ish). i have no regrets switching even if there are a few difficulties with it

Good video. In terms of speed, would it be too unnatural-looking if you typed both at a slower but consistent WPM, then speed up the two videos?

Also, Colemak-DH is good, but adding wide mod makes it much better IMO. Essentially it's shifting the right hand keys one key over to the right, and moving the square brackets and the slash key to the middle. It's just one key, but I found it helped quite a bit, and it's as "split" as you can get while on a traditional staggered keyboard. Also it brings the enter, backspace (or forward slash for you it looks like), and shift key closer, so less movement.

Colemak DH is already a niche variant of a niche keyboard layout, so may as well add wide mod. Or just go full ham, build a fully split Corne keyboard and lose your sanity as you plunge into the rabbit hole.
