Microsoft nearly bought this game studio for a second time and i cant believe it didnt happen.

Emails released during the FTC court case logged against Microsoft purchasing call of duty publisher activision shows that in 2019 Phil Spencer wrote an email to the head of Microsoft Satya nadella asking for approval to go on a spending spree to purchase games studios and publishers.

on the shopping list were Sega, Zynga, IO, and most notably creators of the biggest Xbox franchise of all time, Halo.

For those who dont know Microsoft originally purchase Bungie in the year 2000 to make Halo an Xbox exclusive after it was originally shown off by Steve Jobs at Mac world. Halo went on to launch with the original Xbox and the rest, as they say, is history.

Bungie left Microsoft in Ocotber 2007 and went on create Destiny and Destiny 2.

Emails release during the trial state that "the acquisition of Bungie will include securing valuable IP, Destiny (and its community) and integration of its dev & live ops infrastructure into Xbox Game Studios.”

To say this would have pleased Halo fans is an understatement given the treatment of the franchise by 343 industries. In the end Bungie went to be purchased by Sony but remain independent.

Bungie isn't even a good company anymore, so this isn't even a loss. If anybody was expecting another game like Halo, then Bungie isn't capable. When Destiny 2 was in production and Bungie wasn't held back by any other company, they still made a trash game. The creative spark disappeared when the original crew left or got fired

thank God they didn't buy bungie back, the way the destiny franchise has been treated would negatively affect the Halo franchise almost as bad as 343. at this point both modern bungie and 343 are two sides of the same coin.
