Back in the 80s we would buy discs for our Commodore 64 games, they were 5 1/4” floppy discs from Verbatim. Cool to see them now in the MVME market.

I like this kind of side by side review based on use cases. This helps to clarify the options for consumers into something more meaningful. Thanks
Two suggestions for review: Kingston Fury Renegade and Corsair MP700.

The WD Black SN850X line is conspicuously missing here. Otherwise, thanks for the tests and results.

Using the Solidigm P44 Pro for my main OS in my new rig. It's been AMAZING.

I would also like to see the thermals in these kinds of tests in the future as if such drives are also good for constraint spaces without good airflow such as laptops, handheld, and even consoles.

Very curious to see WD SN850X and SK hynix Platinum P41 results!

The two main factors I look for is not just the immediate speeds, but the consistent speeds over time. Does the performance drop off after a while under load, and how much?
Also another major factor in my opinion is general failure rate, because a well performing drive is worth nothing if you have a higher risk of files getting corrupted etc. Especially for long term file storage.

I heartily recommend the WD Blacks. Not the cheapest, but they have not failed me so far. I have three in my production machine.

A very helpful video, ended up going with a Solidigm P44 pro 1TB for my Custom PC's boot drive and a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB for my project drive. Still haven't decided on which drive I want for my long term storage yet though.

Solidigm coming in strong, basically on par with Samsung. Currently have the Firecuda 530. The new 540’s seem insane too.

The editing to the music in this video! Top notch! Felt like I was watching Masterchef!

The WD_BLACK SN850x is an absolute powerhouse but was left out.

I picked up a couple of Solidigm SSDs myself. 1tb and 2tb. Have a Microcenter near my house in Virginia. Both are P44 Pro

The key here for video creation is speed yes but also Dram. You have to see how long it takes and watch the meter to see if it slows down when it writes. You do not want that for video editing or recording.

Currently running WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB as main OS and game drive, and have a external WD_BLACK D30 2TB as game drive. Still waiting for 4TB NVME SSD to be more mainstream then I will add them to my 3 free slots on the ProArt X670E board. 😅

I use a Corsair force MP600 on my Z390 mb and replaced the stock heatsink with one designed for a gen5 ssd. The benefit to this is most gen3 drives don’t hit the full speed of the of the gen3 m.2 slot but a gen4 drive will while throttling back to maximum gen3 speeds.
I also chose it because it can sustain 666 gigs written before slowing down. And with it going slower than advertised because it’s in a gen3 slot and has a gen5 heatsink, I don’t have to worry about it ever slowing down below maximum gen3 speeds.

Hey. Should I get Samsung 990 Pro M.2 4TB for 410€ or Western Digital Black SN850X M.2 4TB for 330€?

What's your opinion on the Crucial P3 4TB?

I find it online in 🇸🇬 for S$340(USD250).

My H410 M H V3 only supports PCIE 3 and I want to max out the capacity on the NVME SSD since there's only 1 slot on the motherboard

Thanks

Edit: Found a TEAMGROUP MP34 4TB for SGD278 (USD 206). Would like your opinion on it too.

Should have included wd sn850x… being the top ps5 drive and a best price option at least as of now. $109 for a 2TB.. might be hard to beat.

As well as a very popular pick the 970 evo plus.. for gen 3.
