Slavic Mythology CREATURES Explained. Slavic mythology features a diverse array of monsters and creatures, such as, the Strega, a winged demon, preys at night with a human-like face and talons. It can be repelled by holy water or sunlight. Leshy are forest guardians capable of shape-shifting into various forms, from giant tree-like beings to tiny creatures. They protect wildlife but may harm humans who enter their domain. Vodyanoi are water spirits resembling old men with aquatic features, known for mischief and drowning victims. They can be benevolent if appeased but dangerous if provoked. Zmey, are dragon like creatures, intelligent tricksters capable of shapeshifting and sometimes having offspring with humans.
