I’ve never worked a fast food job but videos like this make me want to be in that kitchen helping out.

I just ducked in here to see how things have changed since I worked the grill back in the early 80's. The main difference is that we used to have a searing tool and would sear each burger individually and then flip them manually with a spatula when the timer went off. The flipping was what set grill workers apart from each other. A spatula was used to flip two burgers at a time and we had employees who could flip a row of burgers incredibly quickly, which was. a necessity when things got busy! Also, there was no warmer for burgers. There was a nugget warmer but burgers were immediately wrapped and placed in a bin and discarded after a certain amount of time if not purchased. Interesting to see how things have changed.

Not sure what store you work in but if I went this slow my manager would be screaming at me like an escaped mental hospital patient.

Rofl, it gets me the way burgers are cooked . I remember when a spatula was an important thing . I cooked in fast food and family restaurant dining both, was a meatcutter, cook and dishwasher and I still cook today for myself and others . Let's not let all those good ideas remove why we are called cooks or one day a machine will have your jobs .

Worked at a McDonald’s for 17 years when did they start putting onions on the reg meat when it’s still on the grill at the store I worked at when we made something with the 10:1 patties we put the onions on when we made the sandwich?

I love the fillet-o-fish, but more often than not the fillet is dry. I'm guessing its because they are cooked like the beef patties and then stored in the warmer. Not many people buy the Fillet-o-fish so i can only assume that the fillet on my burger has been sitting in the warmer for too long. I wish that McDonalds would cook each Fillet fresh when ordered, it wouldn't be hard because not many people buy them and those of us who do wouldn't mind waiting an extra few minutes to get a nice FRESHLY cooked fillet. Same goes for the McChicken, except more people buy the McChicken which makes it time consuming to cook each chicken patty fresh to order.

Speed is no longer in the equation. I would much rather those burgers go directly on the bun and out the door. Drive thru is much slower now, and not getting the correct food in the bag is a common problem now. UHC system is designed to control food costs at the expense of speed.

In the 90's a maximum "run" was 12 patties at a time in two rows of six each.
The idea of making only 6 at a time during a busy lunch/dinner rush seems totally absurd to me.
I also don't see there being much benefit to adding the onions on when the meat finishes cooking, the onions used to be added on with the other condiments (Mustard, ketchup, onions then a slice of pickle).
It's also much quicker to add the onions the old way.

The best burgers are made by hand, not frozen patties and made in an assembly line.

My best burger practice is to never get a burger at nasty old McDonald’s.
