We're only into our 2nd year of trekking poles and this video has reassured us that we're using them correctly. If like me you suffer back and joint pain after walking for a while do invest in some.

I have witnessed two accidents using walking poles. In both cases the walker was using them on rough, steep tracks. The walker began to lose balance, was unable to crumple gracefully to the ground because of the poles, and instead fell heavily forward. One case resulted in a dislocated thumb, the other in cracked ribs and a wrenched shoulder. In a third case, witnessed by a close friend, a walker hooked the poles over her wrist while using her hands to scramble down a metre-high section of rock. The poles catapulted her outwards and she slithered down a further several metres, landing on a ledge above a sheer 80 metre drop. Bottom line - in my view they are useful on smooth, well maintained paths and beaches, but should not be used where there is a higher risk of stumbling.

Love the accent so much! You should be acting on the screen...which part of England is the accent?

Not just ornaments dangling on your wrists, like yours appear to be.

All he's doing is stroking the ground with them. He's putting no weight on them at all.

You never showed the proper way to use the wrist straps.
