As a native new yorker it's always interesting hearing stories of people that move here.

The first girl bought into the Sex and the City version of NYC. The movies and TV shows don’t show the filth, they don’t show the loneliness, noooo they make it seem *FABULOUS!* 24/7. No place is amazing 24/7. Don’t forget to review the cons of moving anywhere and really think about those cons before you pull up sticks and move. There is no shame in admitting that NYC is not for you. It’s not for everyone. That doesn’t make you a failure or less cool.

As someone who lived in SoCal for 3 years and now lives in NYC, trust me - homelessness in LA is on a different level compared to what's in New York. Homelessness is so complex because of unplanned challenging situations, personal choices, mental health issues, and extreme poverty. Still, with the weather in LA being more conducive to living outside year-round, many in the homeless community are attracted to living there as opposed to cities with brutal winters like NYC.

The guy freaking out about the roach was hilarious! Born and raised in Florida, we have all sorts of bugs here, including roaches. When I see one i just get out my vacuum and extend the wand and suck it up lol

2:02 As a NYker who hates bugs especially roaches, he makes a strong argument to relocate to Canada.

I'm a native New Yorker, lived there for 47 years (1961-2008). I'm amazed at how people move there and afford to live there now. It's a great city, but it has gotten out of control in terms of affordability. I wish all New Yorkers the best, in recovering from Hurricane Ida. It's a resilient city that has been through a lot; from 9/11 to the 2003 Blackout, from Hurricane Sandy to the Covid-19 Pandemic, and much Hang in there, you can handle it! I still love NYC!

I’ve been in New York a couple times by now, I really have to say what shocked me the most was how up front and honest New Yorkers are! Like one time I was walking out of a Sephora store wearing a bold lipstick and one guy told me: that lipstick looks very good on you or when I lady just scream at my mom how good she outfit looked. I’m from Ecuador and felt New Yorkers were very welcoming and not rude at all, maybe a little bit of craziness and overwhelmed by the city itself but that’s the sparkle and beauty that ny has😍 hoping to live there one day💓

NYC isn't for everybody. Nearly every aspect of living here from making friends to going to the grocery store to doing laundry is tough. You have to be tough and ambitious to live in NYC. But the most shocking thing I've seen is the aftermath of a shooting in Bed-Stuy. This was 2008 and the neighborhood was a lot tougher than it is now. The shooting location is now a wine shop, so...

The first time I ever went to New Jersey (traveling to NY on the bus) it was my first time on public transit, the bus driver was super rude to me because I didn’t have exact change, the lady behind me was so kind, fussed out the bus driver and gave me change. People aren’t like that here in NC at all. I appreciated her and have loved NJ & NY ever since. I’ve been to NY 5 times since 2018 and still love it every time I go, I’ll move there one day!

The way to make friends with quality people in the big city is to volunteer for a cause you believe in -- find an organization that serves where you see improvements need to be made. Be around like minded people who are good natured, altruistic individuals and it's easier to make friends.

New Yorkers can be some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet! Definitely a reason why it’s the best city in the world 🙌💯💃🕺

How to handle bugs Get a cup (solo cup or disposable), place over bug. Then, get a piece of paper and CAREFULLY slide it under cup without letting bug free. Then a piece of cardboard (IMPORTANT) and slide it under paper (the paper will fold if you try to pick it and the cup by itself). One hands holds the cup down on the paper/cardboard, the other picks up the cardboard. Go to window or outside, and toss bug outside. Then proceed to burn paper, cardboard, and cup with a military grade flame thrower while whispering Ave Maria through tears you are trying to hold back. There you go.

When you advertised for people to send clips in, I thought it was a great idea & it definitely was. This was great! My favorite was the cockroach story, that guy did a wonderful job of making you feel his fear. Also, anytime Ben gets on screen is a plus, he has such screen presence. I hope you do more of these. 👏👏👏

Great Video and Topic! I really enjoyed it and reading everyone's comments. I moved almost 40 years ago to start a career in fashion and have loved every second of it. I moved from upstate New York where you must have a car to get around. I know people will think I'm crazy but when I first moved I was most surprised (delighted) by the extensive subway and bus system that can take you to every part of the city and being able to walk to many locations. Even though the transit system has changed allot since I arrived, I still love it here! . You have to be tough, ambitious and have mental fortitude. You will make it if you really want it!

After seeing all of these videos, I can imagine how difficult it could be to get over the initial shock to the system, but over time, everyone who is in it for the long haul finds a way to deal with living here. But one thing is for sure, you have choices when you come to live here and those choices will make your experience, good or bad.

Moved here a couple of months ago and the most shocking things for me were the high cost of EVERYTHING, getting an apartment there was a $500 fee to move in and a $500 move out fee, grocery stores don’t have that many options, and people openly doing drugs on the streets… needles and whatnot.

I loved the Tampa Florida couple's story! I'm born and raised in Tampa Bay so NYC. roaches got nothing on our palmetto bugs that fly!! But my husband and I have visited the city a few times and yes the homeless will swarm you if they see you have cash or cigarettes. I absolutely LOVE the city and it is a goal of mine to move here one day!!
