The Arch: Using Rust & WebAssembly to animate 30k colored LED lights
Показать описание
The Arch will be in SF for Github Universe, Oct 16-17.
One of the hardest problems when you’re learning a new programming language is finding a project that can teach you the basics, but that’s still fun enough to keep you learning more. And “Hello World” is only fun your first few times… it has no real world impact.
But what if your Hello World could have an impact on the real world? What if it could control a structure like this one?
Mozilla collaborated with Ian Brill to create the "Arch". This interactive environment lets people experience the intersection of art and technology in a physical, pulsating, immersive way.
Visitors can walk through the larger-than-life Arch and experience an ever-changing light show of 30,000 colored LEDs. To support the exhibit, Mozilla engineers built a platform that enables anyone to use web technologies (Rust & WebAssembly) to control the Arch animations and makes the light display interactive. The result is fun and colorful -- and it gives developers a chance to interact with new web technologies.
