Claire Muñoz - Nevada Museum of Art
Kat J. Park - Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Lizbeth B. De La Torre - Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Dan Goods - NASA - Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Based out of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory "The Studio" is an eight-person team made up of designers, artists, makers, strategists, and thinkers. "The Studio" works in partnership with scientists and engineers on bold initiatives that advance the edge of possibility. Visual Strategists Dan Goods, Kat Park, and Lizbeth B. De La Torre will discuss how creativity and design combines with science and exploration to build visions of the future.
Dan Goods is a Visual Strategist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He is passionate about creating moments where people are reminded of the gift and privilege of being alive. He leads an amazing team of creatives at JPL, transforming complex concepts into meaningful stories that can be universally understood. The teams work is seen in public spaces, art museums, and even in outer space.
Dan was recently honored with NASA’s Exceptional Public Service Award. In the past he was selected as “One of the most interesting people in Los Angeles” by the LA Weekly. In 2002 he graduated valedictorian from the graphic design program at Art Center College of Design. Dan currently lives in Altadena, CA with his wife and three kids.
Kat J. Park is a concept designer for The Studio at Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She is embedded in various teams (A-Team, RMS Ops Atelier) to investigate creative design and communication in formulation and concept development for space missions. She is a design and strategy consultant for program strategic planning for Exploration Ground Systems at Kennedy Space Center, and leads tasks related to unpacking and articulating large and complex systems at JPL.
Lizbeth B. De La Torre is a Creative Technologist in The Studio at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She holds a BFA in Entertainment Art designing vehicles, props and environments for feature film animation from Art Center College of Design. Liz uses Design Thinking methods and techniques to imagine the future of technology in space. She earned her Master’s of Science with the MIT Media Lab focusing on space technology development. Liz works on bio-inspired origami robotics and mission formulation for future missions. Apart from Illustrating two posters included in the NASA Visions of the Future series (Europa, Ceres) she also co-lead research in astronaut devices and wearables for situational awareness and robotic interaction on Mars. Her current research examines the intersection of creativity and aerospace, and how creative techniques are of benefit to space technology innovation.
