Before Chungking Express, I hardly knew anything about Hong Kong. I remember hearing about the handover back when I was a teenager but it was barely a blip that hardly registered. After this clip randomly appeared on my feed I had this weird feeling where I couldn't get it out of my mind. Almost like an out-of-body experience, I felt like I had lived there at some past life. Not being able to take it out of my mind for a whole week I searched for the film.

By now I've read up on Hong Kong's history and would like to go see it one day. I'm not a fool, I know it won't look anything like this anymore but still. I want to walk a bit on the streets, look out on the bay and then leave. Just to get that "past life" thing out of my system.

Yesterday I did a double feature with my friend we watched chunking and then Fallen Angels. Finally found someone who is absolutely enamored with these films as I am and now im debating what to show them next from the collection. PS: Dont know if youd remember me, but I reached out to criterion and theyre sending me tested working copies of everything! :)
