Actually it is the best adapter for older Sony A-Mout to E-Mount lenses but unfortunately there are big problems which I will show in this video.

The thing I don’t understand is why the manuals focus assist (green dot) that dates back to the Minolta 7000 doesn’t work with any of these adapters as far as I’ve tested

Just collected my SLT77 back from Sony workshop, viewfinder had no image and LCD screen once extended out lost the image.
They called me say no parts available to repair.😢and didnt change anything.

Looks like need to buy a new system. At least with this adapter I can still use my old G lenses. But flash and cable release can't be use on new body.

Thank you for this video. I use a A99 and a A900 with Minolta and Sony A mount Lenses (All the good G lenses from Minolta 50/1.4 ; 85 1.4 ; 200/2.8 ; 80-200/2.8 ; and Sony Zeiss 16-35/2.8 ; 24-70/2.8 and the incredible 135/1.8) and I want to use these lense for video in 4k. If I take the A7R IV with LA-EA5 it will not be possible to have the AF ?
What do I have to continue using my lenses for video in 2024 ?

I just got a used mint a7 and I have that exact 75-300mm so getting this adapter is a godsend considering how expensive newer Sony full frame glass is 😅

The limited support mostly wiped out my interest in staying with Sony at the time. If it worked on the A7III or A6400 bodies it might be different. I think I had over 20 lenses for A mount, at one time. I worked out the cost of buying an A7IV and adapter and I could just as well invest in another system (albeit hassle of selling off A mount gear/lenses). The final issue was no video AF, which is an artificial limitation. Even the LAEA4 can do video AF (with the 3.5 aperture etc). It seems only the A7RIV works with the EA4/EA5 adapters. EA4 is pretty much useless on the new cameras as it won't AF with them, and the bulk/limited AF points made it a very basic solution (had one for a while and sold it)
Looking back yes you're right they didn't have to make the adapter, but also they also didn't say anything about A Mount even when asked by the press (ghosted their A mount users in effect), I wasn't very comfortable with that ethos myself. Mind you Canon did the same with the EOS-M

I have a full set of Minolta lenses that I use on my Sony Alpha 77 body! Instead of buying a A mount full frame body, I wanted to buy a E mount full frame body because that is the way tech is going.

has anyone tried to test it on a FX30? Thanks

I have a a77 with lots of old Minolta and Sony A mount lenses. Because Sony have made an adapter like this I will be hard for me not to choose a new FE mount Sony camera when I upgrade. If there was not adapter and I would have to start from scratch on all my lenses I could chance to Canon, Nikon or what ever. So it is pretty smart to make the adapter to ensure that oldtime Mintola/Sony shooters stay in the family.

The LA-EA5 is the cornerpiece in my hybrid setup with two Minolta Dynax 7 film bodies and a Sony α7R mk V because it was crucial for me to get a system where film and digital cameras could use the same lenses.

As far as I remember, I knew about AF not being available for video before I bought the adapter but it certainly seems odd, considering that video AF is, indeed, available for Canon EF lenses using either the Sigma MC-11 or the Metabones EF to E Mount Adapter (Mark V). I would be ready to pay for a firmware update that made this possible for the LA-EA5.

I also find it strange, as you mention, that Sony has not updated the list of supported cameras (since 2020?) as new models have been released the last few years; I would expect that, for example, the α7C mk II / α7C R can use the adapter and retain AF.

Still, for me it is an indispensable piece of gear for the reason mentioned above.

Thank you, I agree with you that it is a great product but it's working with only few recent bodies is a HUGE limitation!! I already bought it, so don't know what to do with it as of now!

The Sigma mc-11 lets you use Canon ef-lenses on Sony cameras. So far all of them work, even an old Sigma lens for Canon ef that won't even work on my 6d anymore. Full functionality for photos, and very quick too. It's a shame Sony cripples these adapters because it is only software, and they could be easily updated. And I never understood the mirror in the ea4 too, especially when looking to the mc-11.

Good video. Hardly end of the world that the LA EA5 doesn't support video AF for screwdriven lenses. Who would really expect to use them for video? They are still lenses. As I say, Nikon shooter here. We would love this in an FTZIII as we still don't have screw driven AF support. I agree, they should firmware update all cameras to support it. As I said, us Nikon guys would kill for this.

What adapter should I use for L-mount lenses for Sony E-mount cameras?

Thanks for the review. I own Zeiss 135 1.8 and a Zeiss 16-45 f2.8 Sony A mount lenses. I would like to get a 7r5. Is that a good adapter for me?

I have a Sony A7 II and the LA-EA5 works fine with it, meaning, it works as it should according to what says (what is warned) on the list (brochure?) that Sony puts forward on its website, stating which cameras with which lenses are totally compatible and can use automatic focus with the LA-AE5, and which ought to be focused manually (procedure that depending on the camera, can be done with the help of focus-peaking and/or digital zooming). This information/database can be found googleing. All Minolta lenses that I have and some of my Sony lenses (mostly the older ones) only work with manual focusing, and the camera (which recognizes them) puts itself in manual focus when these are mounted on the camera. Others, as the 85mm f/2.8 SAM (a full-frame lens) and the 55-300mm DT f/4.5-5.6 SAM (which really is for APS-C) can work using Automatic focusing or Manual focusing. I find the LA-EA5 very useful and I don't mind having to use some of my lenses, including the Minolta ones and a pair of Tamron Adaptall 2, with Manual focusing. Except for the Tamron Adaptall 2 lenses (which are from the pre-automatic focusing era), the type of lens and the focal distance at which a photo was taken is transmitted to the camera and appears recorded in the EXIF data of the corresponding image file.
