This would be great as a series, like one for Sydney and wherever else you are often 🎉

If any one is wondering, Pigments sells traditional Japanese raw pigments for use in Nihonga style painting. Those hard sticks of glue she showed hanging on the wall are melted down, and pigment is mixed with it and applied directly to the canvas. Each individual pigment comes ground in 12-15ish different levels of coarseness so that different effects can be achieved with the same color. It’s pretty labor intensive but very cool looking.

Would literally fly to tokyo just to check out a 12-floor stationery/art supply shop 😭🙏

I definitely recommend you Gekkoso located in Ginza! It's actually a very tiny shop, but they have their own watercolors and those are super lovely! Their painting tools are amazing as well.
I go there everytime I visit Tokyo☺️Highly recommended!

Those pigment walls are activating that part of my brain that wants to eat aquarium gravel. Forbidden candy :'] Honestly wished we had more aesthetic art stores in the US. Ik there are some pretty stationery stores like Muji but where's the ART DEPARTMENT STORE. WHERE. I WANT TO CLIMB 12 FLOORS OF ART AND STATIONERY SUPPLIES.

Art stores would probably my main reason to travel to Tokyo. They look so amazing and I could get lost for days.

I went to the Pigment store last time I was in Tokyo (a few years ago) and I actually bought something, just because I loved the shop. There's also an architecture models archive nearby (I might be a pro artist but I'm actually a trained architect) and that one is great. It's also not touristic at all, which is nice :)
Sekkaido is going straight to my list though, as I use a lot of japanese brands in my work :)
Thnak you ^^

You have to do a art supply haul with what you got! I would love to see that!

I can confirm that Sekaido has a much smaller location in Nagoya. It's one floor in Sakae. I also enjoy Tokyu Hands and Loft a lot because they often carry a lot of novelty art supplies. I purposely avoided the Sekaido Shinjuku location when I lived in Tokyo so that I wouldn't waste all my money! I have some regrets about that, but I'll stop by there someday.

ITOYA
it'd be such a dream to go there. it has such a cool history of being the first stationery store (? i think) in the 1900s, and its so cool that it's evolved and still functioning today. the old photos of the store are a trip

I am moving to Tokyo in about a month and can't bring all my art supplies with me... so I am excited to explore these, thank you for this video!

Sekaido and Ito-ya are the two i always go to when I’m in tokyo…also Loft and Tokyu Hands (which i think is now just called Hands) are both also really handy stores…and even Daiso has some decent stationery. There’s also another chain I’ve heard another YTer mention called Tools that is apparently really good as well.

<adding Uematsu to my google maps>. I love love LOVE Sekaido, Itoya and Pigment. I amde great use of my points card at Itoya and Sekaido. Did you make it to Kakimori in Kuramae/Taito? Beautiful shop for house made inks and pens. And Gekkoso in. ginza is pretty cute too.
