How to Copy Path in File Explorer in Windows 10 [Tutorial]

Windows File Explorer is one of the best things about Windows 10 due to the fact it allows the user to gain access to several aspects of the operating system with just a few clicks of the mouse. The most impressive thing about Windows Explorer is the ability for users to improve it even further.

Getting the path of a deep-rooted file or a folder in File Explorer can be a daunting task. Many a time we are required to upload the documents to the social media sites or any other sites which forces us to go through numerous folders till you find the desired file. Finding a path to upload a file or a folder in file explorer can be time-consuming. In most cases, it can be quite tedious to traverse to the location of the root directory of a file system. It is indeed tiresome to manually copy the path regularly from the address bar in order to paste it to the desired location.

Copy path or Copy as path will copy the full path of selected items (files and folders) wrapped in quotes to the Clipboard so you can paste the full path(s) of the item(s) where you like.

Copy address or Copy address as text will copy the full path of selected items (files and folders) without quotes to the Clipboard so you can paste the full path(s) of the item(s) where you like.

This tutorial will show you how to copy the full path of files and folders in File Explorer to paste where you like in Windows 10.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba,Lenovo, and Samsung).

I'm trying to figure out how to show the drive description, though. Is there a way...instead of showing C:\ in your example, to show This PC\Local Disk\ or whatever your drive may be. As you know, the drive letter can be arbitrary

I subscribed, great tip. I have been writing the path on my personal file Word hard-copy copies for years. Your method of Ctrl L works wonders! Is it possible while a Word document is OPEN, I can locate the file path, without going to Win Explorer, to paste it to my copy after printing the copy to be mailed? Thanks

Error: 'invalid syntax. Perhaps you forgot a comma? (, line 1)'. Check your schedules/ init values please. Also make sure you don't have a backwards slash in any of your PATHs - use / instead of \. Full error message is in your terminal/ cli.
