Charlie 's mother was named Hannah. Makes it even more moving, which I never thought possible.

This part is usually cut from his famous anti-fascist speech but I think it is the critical epilogue. Chaplin doesn't just call for us to unite for a better world...he can see it happening.

Paulette Goddard was a knockout and a great actress as well. She would have made a helluva Scarlett O'Hara (the original choice) and she would have made the character more sympathetic. Paulette had a feistiness and at the same time a kindness and decency about her that many actresses of that era as well as today, lack.

Slightly OT but I do wanna say that from this performance it is clear Paulette's GWTW screentests that impressed so much were not just a one off. Perfect as Vivien may have been, I think we can all agree Paulette would have been a fine Scarlet O'Hara.

Look up the whole story behind the making of this movie and what it cost him. It is just as moving at the movie. In my heart and I am sure that in his this was a movie of all that is inside of him.
