I still find it crazy just how different HL1 is from HL2. Not just from a technology and storytelling perspective, but also just from a world and character perspective. Gordon was just a normal dude in an extraordinary situation after he was late to work at his New Mexico research job. But in HL2, he’s a messiah fighting an intergalactic empire in an Eastern European dystopia. Few franchises can pull off such a radical shift successfully.

This is really inaccurate. It's not completely wrong about the timeline, it's just not telling the story correctly.
This really sounds like a summary from someone who hasn't played all the games and scraped the wikipedia pages for the basic plot elements.
Examples of what I mean:
"Unforseen Circumstances"
"No one has any clue that it was actually a xen crystal"
He never mentioned that the explosion that blew up Black Mesa was actually set off by G-man. Never explained how G-man sabotaged everything while simultaneously saving your life. There was also no mention of the importance of the nihilanth. Also never explained that the teleportation relied on xen.

This is a very incomplete timeline that misses on a lot of important details and gets some of it all wrong.
