Whether committed for money, notoriety or simply because it was possible, history’s most noteworthy hoaxes - and the minds that created them - continue to fascinate to this day. Indeed, in this era of fake news, Internet fraud and conspiracy theories, our interest in hoaxes seems more prevalent than ever.

Jim Lewis is a native 9th generation Northern Virginian. He is well known in the local area for his historical and preservation efforts, including the creation or updating of 35+ historical markers. Hence, he has been awarded “Lord Fairfax” designation by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. In addition, Jim has also compiled and authored several local historical booklets on behalf of the Hunter Mill Defense League, and assisted in the creation of their award-winning DVD documentary, Danger Between the Lines, which has been shown on PBS TV. Finally, Jim is kept busy with over 40 speaking/local tour engagements per year. His most popular subject matter pertains to the American Civil War and World War-II. However, he occasionally strays into colonial era history, the Cold War via The CIA’s Biggest Heist and eclectic topics such as Drop Dead Gorgeous.
