Gen Z here. Please do this with your kids and your friends’ kids. I’m 18 now and because of Covid and screens and everything I missed out on adventures from about 12-17. Let your kids be free and experience what the world has to offer, let them get outside.

I don't even have kids and I think this is great advice. I remember growing up as a latchkey kid and hanging out with my neighborhood friends riding our bikes, adventuring along trails and ditches and just having fun outside. I'm so glad I grew up when I did!

I read the anxious generation, so naturally I became so exited when I saw Johnathan Haidt was a guest on the podcast!! Amazing stuff, thank you.

Awesome analogy, instead of them thinking you are taking these things away to punish. You explain your trying to enrich their lives and experience. Great guest

I definitely agree. I’m gen z and the vast majority of my friends and colleagues agree that we want less screen-centered childhoods for our kids

My son is 16 and just got a phone for emergencies. Until they are confident in who they are social media is a no. Absolutely not

This requires parents who are actually present and involved in their kids’ lives.

Absolutely. It summer and I feel like it could be better bc it’s so easy to just go in my room and watch yt, and now I’m kinda bummed. Any summer suggestions off screens

My concern is this: the parents that need to hear this are not watching or listening to this podcast.

I work with teens everyday for my job, they will go out and try new things if their friends come too and if you ask them ahead of time to leave the phone. I'm really thankful for Haidt's work

Other parents won’t. At least some that my kids are friends with. So we go on our own adventures. My boys are only allowed 1.5hours on their tablets per week. Yes it’s hard when kids in my son’s class have a phone and use it inappropriately during school. Watching sexy videos at recess and I have to inform the teachers about it. Tangent!
