Twist: I heard an interview with Marty's son. His insight was " the main character was NOT chased after because he killed the stranger. The stranger pulled his gun first. The possie was after him because, in his haste to leave, he stole a horse." interesting thought that I never thought of before. Now, with that knowledge, listen again.

The late Marty Robbins is legendary. There's a follow-up to this song called "El Paso City". You really need to hear it right after El Paso.

There are sequels to this song. It's a tcouple of songs';
1.
Big Iron
A song written by Robbins that appears on the album Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs. This is the first time Falina shows up. The song was featured in the video game Fallout: New Vegas and became popular again in the 2010s.

El Paso
A western ballad that was released in 1959 and became a major hit on the country and pop charts. The song is about a man who flees El Paso, Texas after killing a romantic rival in a gunfight. It's the second time Falina shows up as his love.

The main character was clearly defending himself. However, in those days, stealing a person's horse was a death sentence since it endangered the owner's survival.

This song is the first of a trilogy. “Feleena” would be the next song then “El Paso City”. You should check them all out.

The genre is Western. Also, imho, the studio versions of Marty's songs add a lot... although live is great too!

You should do the trilogy and then... Big Iron.

This song is one-third of a trilogy centered on the same two people: the singer and Feleena. Next, listen to the song titled "Feleena, " same story told from the woman's point of view. To wrap up the trio, look for "El Paso City." A triple, story-telling string by the wonderful Marty Robbins!

Is this country? It's the western part of Country and Western, the story telling part. The real thing.

This is true country and western music. Nothing like what they call country music today. This was back in the times of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans who was his wife. He was known as The Riding Singing Cowboy. His horse was named Trigger. I am 70 years old and I can remember sitting in front of our black and white tv as a young boy and watching these music shows. Those were special times for me. ❤❤❤ Love you guys ❤❤❤

There is really no such thing as country-western music. There is country music and there is western music. This is western music, which is another term for cowboy music. Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Sons of the Pioneers, Marty Robbins -- those were western singers. People began calling country music "country-western music" because of a basic misunderstanding. Back in the earlier days of radio, country stations would also play western (or cowboy) music. They would say "this is your country and western station, " referring to both types of music. Uninformed listeners thought country music was called "country and western music, " and some folks still mistakenly call it that.
