Just a little tip, next time you spray a finish or spray any paint on a large area, never stop your arm from moving when you release the spray trigger. The correct way to do it is to release your finger from the trigger and keep you arm moving in the direction you have been spraying. That way any laquer/paint still coming out after the trigger is released won't collect in one spot.

Sand with the grain, not cross-grain, and use 400 grit for the sanding between coats. Top job though man it looks prime.

i've just watched a guy talking about his desk and sanding it for 30 minutes at 4am.

Use a belt sander sanding with the grain, start 60-80 if very damaged, go up to 120 then hand sand until 150-180, clean dust with an alcohol soaked rag, spray first few coats sanding with 320-400 in between, then another few coats 400-600 between, spray last coat thick on the edge of running (to get the gloss) then polish. If any imperfections remain after last coat, sand with 600 to remove, then go 800-1000-1500-2000 and polish.
Re the belt sander, it's better than orbital due to it always running along the grain, but you have to be real gentle with it or it'll bite in and make grooves. Just guide it and hold it level and let it do the work without pressing into it.

GRIT, not GRAIN, you're not making bread you're using rocks. the only thing that is grain is the wood, but when you sand it you get saw dust.

power sander > hand sanding = Vim > nano. The math/syntax equation is free. The natural finish of the wood after sanding looks great, would look good with just a coat of poly.

You use the sprayer in a wrong way
You need to do short and quick, even and reoccuring strokes for good results

Nice work. You may want to look into spraying 2k clear over your project later. It is defiantly a worthwhile product. Also tip for next time, overlap your spray lines 50% going across the desk, it will help avoid getting tiger stripes.
